Sitemaps are possibly one of the easiest and most effective ways to get Google to index all of your site pages. If you are
promoting a site of any kind and do not a sitemap you are out there with one hand tied firmly behind your back.
There are several kind of Sitemaps, the main one you want to focus on is XML because this is Google’s preferred sitemap and we want the mighty Google to Love us don’t we?
Back in the day you used to have to build your sitemaps from scratch, and anyone who has don’t this will appreciate that it’s a royal pain in the ass! However these days we have great services like
who provide us with a completely free service that pumps out every kind of sitemap we could possibly want.
Sitemaps also provide us with valuable information form services like Google Webmaster tools or now Bing Webmasters. Within your webmasters account you can find errors on your site or old dead links, in fact Google will tell you what keywords people were typing when they ended up on your site so If your not using Webmasters with Sitemaps “Go and Do it now!”.
Here’s another tip!
Create a html version of your sitemap as well and place a link in the footer of your page template, this will create a back-link to your sitemap for every page that you have on your site. Make sense?
Put it this way, if you have a link to your sitemap from each page, then every time the Google spiders happen to make it to your page then they will have to go right through the site.
And that’s why Google sitemap generation is so important, if you want to learn more about sitemaps and getting your blog noticed then i recommend Bloggers Payback.
